THE expected re-opening of Otley's only public swimming Pool has been put back indefinitely - after problems surfaced with the gas supply.
The Chippendale Pool, at Prince Henry's Grammar School, should have opened on Monday following its £340,000 refit.
But days before the opening engineers discovered a problem with the gas pipes leading to the boiler and the opening had to be delayed. The re-opening, after the pool was closed for four months, was supposed to coincide with a week of free swimming.
Anne Ridgeway, of West Chevin Road, said there was nothing outside the school to show that the opening had been put back.
Mrs Ridgeway, who tried to take her son swimming on Monday night, struggled across paving slabs and unlit school grounds to discover the pool shut up.
"We got right up to the changing rooms to find this sign saying to get in touch with Aireborough Leisure Centre - to think they've spent more than £300,000 on doing it up, it's not very good."
James Starbuck, Leeds Leisure services general manager, said: "We have identified problems with the main gas lines that supply the site and the boilers, which are insufficient and need upgrading. We are unsure how long it will take to mend, but we will notify visitors as soon as we have any indic ation."
