A 39-year-old man in a wheelchair had money stolen by a man who offered to clean his windows.

In a crime described as 'despicable' by police, the man, who has suffered from a stroke, let the thief into his ground floor flat in Queensway, Yeadon at around 2pm on Friday last week.

The thief, who knocked at the man's rear kitchen door, asked if he could use the toilet.

He then offered to clean the windows inside and out and while the owner of the house was making him a drink, he stole money from a wallet.

Described as between 25 to 30 years old, about 5ft 5ins, of slim build and wearing a blue and white woolly hat and light coloured jacket, the thief then calmly left after saying goodbye.

Peter Krushniak, neighbourhood watch liaison officer at Weetwood Police Station, said: "This really was quite despicable.

"There was this man in a wheelchair who took this man at face value and trusted him.

"He even made him a cup of coffee - it's quite terrible."
