A 20-year-old man was viciously attacked as he walked home through Otley at the weekend.

Police are now appealing for a good Samaritan who gave the man the taxi fare home - because they believe she may have been a vital witness.

The Otley man was walking along Beech Hill out of Otley at 10pm on Saturday when he was attacked for no apparent reason.

His attacker, believed to be in his middle 20s, had been in a group of four others who had crossed over in front of him.

While the three others took no part in the attack, the man repeatedly punched his victim in the face.

When the unfortunate man fell down and tried to get up, he was knocked down again.

Police say they would now like to get in touch with the woman driver who offered help.

The woman, who was driving a people carrier type vehicle with two children on board, stopped, offered help and gave the injured man money for a taxi.

The attacked man was taken to the Leeds General Infirmary where he was treated for bruising. He also suffered cracked teeth.

His attacker is described as in his middle 20s, around 5ft 5ins tall, clean shaven of slim build and with a shaven head.
