An award winning Ilkley design company is celebrating after landing two major contracts worth more than £6m.

Redman Design Associates, on The Grove, has won a contract worth £4,315,000 to redesign more than 20 galleries in Glasgow.

It has also been appointed as design consultants for a £15 million redevelopment by the Sheffield Galleries and Museums Trust in a deal worth more than £2m to Redman.

Partner Bryn Redman said: "It is quite exciting. We are looking forward to working at the Glasgow City Gallery to develop the museum. It is set to open in 2006 and is quite a long project and it will be taking up a lot of our time.

"The Sheffield project is similar but a lot smaller. There is a small time scale to do it but there is a lot of work involved.

"This is the biggest project we have worked on, in the past we have been involved with £4m to £5m projects but nothing on this scale."

The company, which has been in Ilkley for more than ten years, competed for the Glasgow tender with 14 other design consultancies.

Glasgow City Council chose Redman as designers for their 'New Century Project' at Kelvingrove Museum after it won the pitch for best overall quality and price.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has confirmed £25 million funding for the Glasgow project. John Redman, also a partner at the firm, said: "We are delighted to be selected for both of these prestigious projects.

"Our challenge is to find the most effective way to connect the exhibits with the widest possible audience, introducing new techniques and technologies to create attractions for the 21st Century which Scotland and Sheffield will be proud of."

The Sheffield project will transform the City Museum, and Mappin Arts Gallery, where displays have remained virtually unchanged for decades due to lack of funding.

Redman Design, which has more than 25 years' experience in the museum and heritage field, has won many major national and regional awards for its projects.
