THE King's Hall/Winter Gardens complex will get new seating for the balcony thanks to the profits of the recent Old Time Music Hall shows.

More than 1,000 people turned up for the two night show earlier this month and boosted the profits to around £10,000.

The last Old Time Music Hall show cash was used to completely

refurbish the seating in the King's Hall. This time the Friends of the King's Hall will use the cash to buy refurbished seating for the balcony section.

Jim Horsley, chairman of the Friends, said that the group was also trying to buy new carpets for the balcony section, new showcases for outside the venue and to improve the lighting.

A meeeting of the Trustees at the end of last week decided that any money left over would go into a

central pot which could then be added to any National Lottery money

grant.

Bradford Council is helping the Friends put together a grant application for thousands of pounds which will be used to fund further improvements at the Edwardian complex.

Speaking of the recent show, Mr Horsley said: "We've been doing these shows for 40 years and the general view was that this was the best one yet."

Since the formation of the Friends of the King's Hall, around £170,000 has been spent on the venue but it is thought that another half-a-million pounds needs to be spent, including the replacement of the roof.

Bradford Council has earmarked £40,000 for the project already, but it is thought that it could cost around £100,000.

At the latest meeting of the Friends, it was announced that the Lottery Heritage Fund had asked for a complete conservation plan for the complex to discover exactly what needed doing.

Members have now asked Bradford Council to put together a list of costings for work that needs to be carried out and they are waiting for the

estimates to be completed.
