schoolchildren cried "fowl" this week, when they pitted their wits against goal-keeper Billy Bantam.

The Bradford City mascot visited St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Keighley, on Tuesday to challenge pupils to a sponsored penalty shoot-out.

Pupils were sponsored by family and friends and to score against the feathered football fan. The money raised is split equally between the school and City's community scheme.

Joseph Zieba, the school's PE co-ordinator, said: "They had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed it.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for pupils to take part in an activity they enjoy and, at the same time benefit the school and others."

The pupil with the most sponsors wins an autographed football and medals are given to all the pupils who beat Billy with all four shots.

And, egged on by the cheering of their school friends, many of the pupils did just that, leaving the hapless Bantam time and time again laid flat on the gym floor.
