Keighley Scouts proved on Saturday that they are top of the pots.

Nine teams of youngsters from throughout the district competed in the Scouts' annual indoor cooking contest.

Each two-strong team had a couple of hours to cook and serve up a three-course meal. They were allowed to spend just £5 on ingredients. They were then judged on various factors, from the quality of the menu and their organisational skills to the taste of the final product.

Judging was by Tony Brown, a vice-president of Keighley Scout movement.

Ian Neale, the Assistant District Commissioner for Scouts, said: "The standards were high and it was a close run competition, with only 11 points separating all the teams. There was a wide variety of meals, from chilli to pork loin chops. Everything had to be cooked on the day, using double burners.

"I would like to thank Tony for doing the judging and everyone who helped."

The event -- at the Fell Lane Scout HQ -- was won by the 23rd Keighley (St Anne's), with the 25th Keighley (Long Lee) second. Both now go forward to a county cooking competition later this month.

The 2nd Keighley (Riddlesden) and the 14th Keighley (Haworth) were joint third.
