Bradford's disused power station may become a massive industrial estate, providing many new jobs within walking distance of the city centre. First steps are being taken by Bradford Council to buy the site which covers about 11 acres. Council planners hope to get a Government grant for the project in the financial year beginning next month.

Police are investigating attempts made by intruders, believed to be young people, to set fire to the veterans' pavilion in West Park Recreation Ground, Girlington, Bradford. A reporter found that a pile of ashes, presumably taken from inside the pavilion, had been placed in the centre of the floor.
