There will be horsepower of different kinds later this year when two popular fundraising events make a welcome return.

The Bront Vintage Gathering and a harness racing event are to be staged at Manor Farm, Haworth Road, Cullingworth, to raise money for Manorlands, the Oxenhope Sue Ryder Care home.

The vintage gathering, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19, had to be cancelled last year following the outbreak of foot and mouth.

Organisers of the event still managed to keep the cash flooding in for Manorlands with a social evening at Victoria Hall.

And they have pledged to make the gathering of vintage vehicles and fun attractions the biggest and best yet.

Fundraiser Chris Bown said: "The Bront Vintage Gathering has become a popular attraction and it raised more than £8,000 for Manorlands in 2000.

"There will be a host of attractions including traction engines, vintage cars, stalls, mini motorbikes, Bertie the Rotary Bus, refreshments, and arts and crafts.

"Hopefully the Army, Cresta Run and the Burmese Mountain Dogs will be attending."

Entrance will be £3 per adult, £2 for OAPs and £1 for children.

The harness racing will take place at the same venue on Sunday, May 26, with runners and riders competing for the first ever Manorlands Cup. Care centre manager Sue Hesse will present the trophy to the winning team. There will also be side shows and refreshments.

When the event was held in 2000 it raised the grand sum of £5,000 for the hospice. This year's harness racing starts at 2pm and entrance is £5 each.
