TV weatherman Paul Hudson will be weathering a storm next week as police finally catch up with him.

He'll be accused of getting his forecasts wrong during a mock trial in Keighley town centre.

Keighley-born Paul will be taken into custody on March 19 in order to launch the town's Partners Against Crime week.

Shoppers and schoolchildren will be able to make accusations against the celebrity from about 9am in the Airedale shopping centre.

They can also get involved in a host of anti-crime activities hosted by dozens of local organisations throughout the week.

Up to 1,600 free personal attack alarms - funded through Keighley Area Panel - will be handed out to townspeople during the week.

Information, advice and practical guidance will be available at a display in the Airedale Centre, and at various sites around Keighley from the police exhibition caravan.

Several specialist groups will also be on hand to explain their own crime-fighting work and answer questions.

David Emmott, chairman of the Area Panel, says his members believe the buying of the attack alarms shows their commitment to the Partners Against Crime week.

He adds: "This is a very valuable and practical way of making people feel safe as they go about their lawful business on a daily basis."

Partners Against Crime is the brainchild of Keighley Single Regeneration Budget and the town's police force.

Police chief Superintendent Graham Sunderland believes the week will bring local people and organisations together to kick criminals out of town.

He hopes that as well as inspiring new crime-fighting initiatives, the event will lessen people's fear of crime by showing what agencies are already doing.

Partners Against Crime, which runs March 18-24, will feature roadshows, fun events and giveaways aimed at showing people how to combat various kinds of crime.

The police information caravan will be out and about, in Holycroft (Monday evening), Airedale Hospital (Tuesday morning), Silsden (afternoon), Sangat Centre in Lawkholme (Wednesday), Oakworth (Friday lunchtime), Haworth (afternoon).

There will also be the launch of Silsden Business Watch (Tuesday), an open day at the Henry Street drug and alcohol project (Thursday), and a multi-cultural day (March 23).

Other organisations taking part include the Probation Service, Motor Education Project, Crimestoppers, South Ward Youth Project and the new Dalton Lane Business Watch.

The second Saturday, March 23, will feature a family day outside the new bus station and car crime information being handed out at local car parks.

The Keighley News will next Friday carry the full programme for Partners Against Crime together with a crime-fighting questionnaire.

Anyone who wants to get involved in the Partners Against Crime week should phone the SRB office on 01535 618095, or anti-crime co-ordinator Chris Slaven on 01535 618019.
