Thousands of people will be hearing more about Calderdale after the local council took part in the Outdoor Show at the National Exhibition Centre in Birming-ham last week.

Calderdale was the only local authority from West Yorkshire to exhibit at the prestigious show, which is open to representatives of the travel trade and to the public.

Tourism manager Ed Westbrook said the Council had highlighted its outdoor activities and short breaks.

"Thousands of visitors came to the Calderdale exhibition stand and were impressed by the opportunities the area has to offer," he said.

"Everyone who visited the stand will now be added to Calderdale Tourism's mailing lists and will receive further news of our activities.

"The show's attendance exceeded all expectations and next year will be expanded from one hall to three. We are definitely booking our stand for that event."

A Council spokesman said this year was an "outdoors special" with the restoration of the Rochdale Canal completed, the launch of the Mary Townley Loop of the Pennine Bridleway and the Calder Valley Cycleway, plus the sixth Calderdale Walking Festival.
