Volunteers bidding to restore a railway carriage in time for the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations have been floored.

The team, on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, needs to replace the plush carpeting in the luxurious Jubilee Bar and Lounge coach.

Now it is seeking a business or individual willing to offer sponsorship.

The coach entered service on the K&WVR in 1977, the year of the Queen's Silver Jubilee.

Spokesman Derik Smith said: "Our carriage and wagon lads are carrying out restoration work on the coach's bodywork, while I am attending to the interior fittings and decorations.

"We are all set to complete the work on time, but money is tight and we need expert help with carpeting the lounge and bar areas.

"Perhaps there is a quality carpet supplier out there who would like to help us - to take up this unique challenge while visibly demonstrating to visitors the standard of their goods and workmanship."

Anyone able to help should contact Mr Smith on (01706) 878512.

Meanwhile a famous steam loco which starred in the classic Railway Children movie is back on track.

The engine - which achieved fame as The Green Dragon in the 1970 film, shot in the Worth Valley - is set to return to service after undergoing a £150,000 restoration.

The loco - No 957 - was transported by road on Monday to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway from the Severn Valley, where its refit was carried out.

Volunteers are now readying the 115-year-old engine to resume passenger operations.

Financial contributions from many individuals, and one major bequest, funded its latest overhaul.
