Bradford 0, Sunderland 1 - Poor finishing could cost Bradford a chance to avoid relegation through the hockey play-offs.

Bradford conceded an unfortunate goal to lose at home to Sunderland, but only have themselves to blame for not converting their many chances.

They had most of the possession and should really have taken the points.

In the first ten minutes they won 11 penalty corners but failed to convert one.

In open play, young Fiona Harland was effective down the right flank, making several runs in along the back line. But no-one got on the end of the final pass.

Then, against the run of play, Laura Hughes flicked past the keeper to give Sunderland the lead, which they held until half-time.

Midway through the second half, Bradford were awarded a penalty stroke for a foul tackle when a player was about to shoot from five metres out.

Sara Whitehouse, Bradford's regular stroke-taker, failed to execute the stroke properly and it was an easy save for the Sunderland keeper.

The Bradford goalkeeper probably touched the ball twice in the whole match, once to take it out of the net, and the other to make that save.

Bradford's only hope now of avoiding relegation into Division Two is to win against top-of-the-table Southampton in the last match of the season on Saturday, April 6 at Bradford University and hope their closest rivals fail to get any points.
