Trainees in Keighley are using their new decorating skills to give the Muslim community centre in Emily Street a make-over using recycled materials.

Several of the group are hoping to take their newly-learned skills further by becoming self-employed.

Councillor Simon Cooke, Bradford Council's executive member for the economy, said: "Through these programmes members of the community are gaining recognised skills, qualifications and practical work experience.

"These projects have brought together a range of organisations and pooled skills to benefit the whole community."

The project to redecorate the community centre was set up by Keighley Healthy Living Network and Initial Training. Materials were supplied by Bradford Paint Recycling and the project was run in partnership with Bradford College.

This is one of many activity sessions promoting health and wellbeing for men and women in Keighley, run by the Keighley Healthy Living Network. Anyone interested can call Nazia Hussain on 01535 677177.

Keighley training group Initial Training is part of Bradford Council's Department of Regeneration and Business Partnerships, and offers a variety of training programmes to unemployed people, aged from 16 to 65. Anyone unemployed and interested in training can phone 01535 677177 or Initial Training on 01535 618272.
