Police have started a new crack down on Drugs in Keighley - and want the public to help.

People in the town are being urged to call a specialist drugs hotline with any suspicions they have about drug dealing.

Keighley police want information about drug houses where dealing is taking place, about vehicles used in connection with drugs and about areas where there is drug trafficking.

The Keighley Police operation will run until March 31 and is being spearheaded by Detective Chief Inspector Roger Gasson, the head of Keighley CID.

Once information has been collated, officers plan to focus on stopping and searching vehicles and people for drugs.

A drugs hotline has been set up in the division - on 01535 617171 - and DCI Gasson urged people to ring in with information.

"We are determined to tackle this problem which blights local communities and ruins lives," he said.

"We know people are committing other offences to support a growing drugs habit."

The latest crackdown is in support of the Communities Against Drugs initiative - a Government funding award.

Teams of police officers are already working towards disrupting drugs markets throughout the district, and with extra information from the Keighley area it is hoped to carry out a number of search warrants every week in the division.

Traffic officers will be actively stop-checking vehicles for drugs.

"We are committed to tackling drugs in our communities," said DCI Gasson. To do this we need good quality information about people suspected of dealing. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence."
