Ilkley is aiming to woo the Easter tourists by staging a big extravaganza in the town centre.

The event will be held outside Ilkley Tourist Information Centre, in Station Road, at 11am on Easter Monday and is open to people of all ages.

The Easter Bonnet Show will have prizes awarded for the best dressed hats. There will be competitions and traditional games to bring holiday fun for children and to help woo visitors back to the town.

During the day, children and parents will be able to play games in a celebration of family entertainment before the 'dawn' of television.

The fun includes Hopscotch, Whip and Top, Marbles, Pin the Tail and Skipping.

Tourist information staff have organised an Egg Decorating competition among local schools and playgroups and all entries will be displayed at Ilkley Tourist Information Centre from Monday, March 25.

Judging will take place on Easter Monday and prizes include donated Easter Eggs.

Staff at Ilkley Toy Museum on Whittom Croft Road, are also organising a special Easter Quiz for visitors. The Museum will be open throughout the Bank Holiday.

Coun Anne Hawkesworth, Executive Member for the environment said: "The Easter Bank Holiday is traditionally a very busy time for the town and Ilkley tourism staff are pulling out all the stops to attract people of all ages to enjoy this wonderful place.

"A host of entertainment and competitions is being laid on to make next Monday a great family day out with the help of local attractions and businesses. I would urge people to come along and join in the fun."
