Dudley Hill Eagles 34

Guiseley Rangers 32

The script for Saturday's clash at Eccleshill between the two Rangers - Victoria and Guiseley - could not have been bettered if written in Hollywood. It is a must win situation for both teams as Victoria need the victory to gain promotion and Guiseley need the win to stand a chance of avoiding relegation.

Guiseley are desperately unlucky to be in their present position, having suffered some very narrow defeats against some good sides.

Last Saturday, at Dudley Hill, was in this category. Early on, the visitors pressed hard without being able to put points on the board. As the Eagles settled Rangers' defence found it difficult to cope with the wide pitch and the home team rattled in four good tries.

Guiseley fought back with tries from forwards Dave Taylor and Rob Walker but the Eagles had the final say of the first-half with another try to give them a 28-10 interval lead.

The second-half saw the visitors completely dominate proceedings with some scintillating rugby. The pack, led by Craig Adamson, laid a superb platform. It was practically all Guiseley as first James Lavelle scored, following a super kick through from Dave Taylor. Sub Stephen Irving crossed in the corner, Dave Taylor bagged his second try and, when skipper Peter Smith went in under the posts, the game was really on.

The home team managed a solitary six points in this half, and when, with three minutes to go, James Lavelle went in behind the posts for his second try, the conversion would have levelled the scores. Unfortunately, it was missed and the Eagles had the victory.

Rangers certainly deserved something from this game as a good sized crowd had witnessed a feast of open attacking rugby league.

l On Saturday meet at the dressing rooms at 1pm for a 2.30pm kick-off at Victoria.

Horsforth U-15s 12

York 30

Horsforth Under-15s played and lost against the slope in the first-half. Despite very good team work in both attack and defence, the York team as so often this season used the slope to their advantage. The first- half saw Horsforth 26-0 down facing a stiff challenge.

In the second-half York scored first with an unconverted try. Horsforth did not allow their heads to go down and kept working. Their efforts paid off, an excellent run from Craig O'Neill put Alex MacKenzie over for their first score. Ryan Jacobs converted. Having at last got some points Chris Pattison went over for a try converted by Jacobs, who also got plenty of field possession.

Horsforth were a different team in the second-half. The team defended well only allowing York a try, with a difficult missed conversion. Horsforth attacked and scored 12 points. Sadly the points accumulated by York in the first-half gave them the advantage.

Man-of-the-Match was Kyle Hughes who was strong in attack and defence. Top tackler was Josh Mooney with 35 tackles. Mooney, Hughes, Harris ,Walker, MacKenzie, Jacobs, O'Neill, indeed all the team played well.

Sunday should be a home fixture 10.30 am at Tinshill Rec.Opponents to be advised.
