Marsden 1

Otley Town 1

With a good win against the same team last week and an eye still on the forthcoming County Cup semi-final, Joe Lunn started this game on the bench.

For the semi-final, Town are going to be without Andrew Redman and James Firth so with this in mind manager Martin Budden has been trying players in various positions. This week Ben Hawley replaced Lunn and Lee Grice played in Firth's position.

With the usually dependable Richard Langhorn struggling to shake off illness Town struggled in midfield and Paul Wood gave Marsden the lead. Langhorn had food poisoning in the week and did well to play to half-time and was missed when Lunn replaced him.

The Marsden 'keeper made one or two good saves, one in particular from Ben Hawley. Town's reply came with ten minutes to go from a hard and low, near post corner, which Steve Boddy flicked in.

l On Saturday Town make the trip to third placed Hemsworth. Kick-off 2.30pm. Spectators are reminded that there are still places on the coach going to the County Cup semi-final. To book a seat phone David Ives 01943 465165.

Kirkby Malzeard 2

(Kirkby won 5-4 on penalties)

This game was 2-2 after extra-time of an evenly-fought game and Kirkby Malzeard went through to the third round of the Challenge Cup on penalties.

Manager Peter Nithsdale showed his disappointment after the game but was first to wish the Kirkby side well in the next round.

Town took the lead through the pacey Dean Wagstaffe. Town had the better of the game in the first-half until the dependable Bobby Johnson left the field after a clash of heads. Town seemed to lose their way after this and Kirkby equalised.

The hard working Anthony Gilmartin shot Town into the lead after the break but the visitors seemed to have more enthusiasm and took the game to the home team and were very unlucky not to win having struck the woodwork on three occasions.

An eventual equaliser took the game into extra-time and the penalties to decide the tie were taken at the clubhouse end in front of the biggest crowd of the season so far.

Johnson returned from the hospital with five stitches to see the Kirkby 'keeper save one penalty and Anthony Gilmartin, Chris Stuart, Dean Wagstaff and Dale Gilmartin all convert. Unfortunately for Town, Kirkby scored all five.

Town are still in the Senior Cup and are away at Boroughbridge in the semi-final.

l Saturday sees a derby with the visit of Pool to the Old Showfield for a game both teams need to win to enhance their chances of winning the league. Kick-off 2.30pm

Otley Town A 3

Killinghall Nomads 1

OTLEY Town A's youth policy really came to fruition when there were nine teenagers in the squad and every one of them played their part in gaining a well-earned victory.

As usual it took time for Town to settle and they looked very uneasy and nervous as Nomads applied the early pressure. Town managed to weather the storm and began to play some good football of their own.

Town opened the scoring through Cater after good work by Alderson who then scored himself. Town's defence was completely in control with Ben Dexter gelling nicely.

Town began to create chance after chance and when Cater was brought down from behind Dan Conneely converted the penalty. The second-half was barely minutes old when Town were reduced to ten men when Ryan was sent off leaving both sides confused as to the reason.

Killinghall netted a consolation as ten man Town held on.
