Rossendale 5

Guiseley 1

The first-half of this match gave little indication of what was to follow. After taking a 1-0 interval lead Guiseley capitulated in the second-half to a team that had not won a match in their ten previous games.

Ian McLean provided the inch perfect cross from the by-line for Lee Reilly to place a well directed header wide of Mark Andrews to give Guiseley a half-time lead in what had been a typical match between teams in mid-table with not much to play for except perhaps an outside chance of reaching the play-offs.

Even at the start of the second-half Reilly again created an opportunity but shot straight at the 'keeper. From then on it became one-way traffic, not helped by Guiseley's inability to cope within a defensive formation playing five at the back.

Time and time again, as at Radcliffe earlier in the week, Simon Trevitt and Ian McLean were left cruelly exposed down the flanks, with no cover for either wing back as Rossendale utilised the acres of space on the wings to devastating effect.

The equaliser came from Jerome Fitzgerald on 52 minutes after a Neil Parsley error and he then put away Sargeson's cross for the second.

Roles were then reversed as Sargeson scored from the spot for an innocuous challenge by David Cooke which earned the Guiseley man a yellow card.

At this point Guiseley reverted to a flat back four in an attempt to restore some parity but the damage had already been done and further goals from Gardner and Williams completed the rout.

Centre-back Matt Daly has moved up to the Premier Division by joining Bradford Park Avenue.

He had an enforced debut in the 2-0 defeat at Hyde on Saturday when Micky Thompson pulled out of the Avenue squad due to work commitments.

Initially Daly had been destined for Goole Town to get some much needed match practice with former Guiseley manager Steve Richards after his recent lay-off for illness and holidays.

In a surprise about turn from the man Neil Parsley made captain back in December Daly asked for his release after being left out of the first team.

l On Saturday Guiseley make the long journey to Leek Town while the Reserves entertain Barrow (3pm). On Easter Monday Guiseley entertain local rivals Farsley Celtic who are battling against relegation.(3pm).

Guiseley Reserves 6

Accrington Stanley 2

After a traumatic week in which manager Brett Ferriday left amidst a three match losing run by the one time title chasers Guiseley Reserves recovered to notch victories over Lancaster and Accrington Stanley.

They had lost to Lancaster, Accrington and Morecambe all away in a one week spell but under new manager Ray Price they got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Lancaster with goals from a superb Scott Price free-kick and a Steve Hall tap in.

By the end of their second game in less than 20 hours some of the Guiseley lads were out on their feet.

On Tuesday the Reserves played Accrington Stanley and after a goalless first-half produced a goal blitz with Scott Price netting a very well taken hat-trick.

In a display of clinical finishing Phil Atkinson, Kevin Newhouse and Peter Sumner also added goals as Accrington became a demoralised side.

Youth team player Adam Cater has made a good impression after coming on as a substitute in the last two games and now looks to make progress with the Reserves.

Skipper Cory Larkin has been a tower of strength all season and continues to perform at the top of his form.

Although it now seems impossible for the Reserves to win the Lancashire League title - Morecambe having virtually finished their programme and having the points in the bag while Guiseley have 12 games to play - they can finish as runners-up.

This would still be a tremendous achievement bearing in mind how many key players have moved up to the first team.
