Queensbury 'A' 18, Keighley Albion 'A' 0 - Albion produced a rather lifeless performance to remove themselves from the Shipley Trophy at Queensbury. This was to a team a division below.

Both teams started steadily with defences on top. The only matter of incident was in the second minute when a Glen Palmer kick through resulted in the home winger being bundled back over his tryline. However Albion couldn't make use of the platform gained from the drop out.

After 15 minutes the deadlock was broken. Queensbury made a 40m break from deep in their half. This lead to a penalty for holding down and shortly after a failure by the markers gifted the acting half-back an easy try. No conversion but the Keighley side were already looking off the pace. This was confirmed later when adventurous passing down the wing saw the home side make a 50m try. With the conversion Queensbury were 10 points clear.

Albion tried with various bits of individual quality. Steve Cullen ripped the ball from the fullback following a kick and chase. However the visitors couldn't make use of this advantage. Danny Brophy shot 50m down the wing and it took a vicious high tackle to stop him. Again there was no gain from this.

Further salt was rubbed into the wound when a harsh penalty for holding down was converted by Queensbury. This ended the scoring for the half. Halftime score Queensbury 12 Albion 0.

In the second half Albion managed the difficult trick of coming very close but never looking like scoring. Alistair Feather just grounded the ball on the dead ball line following a kick through. Ian Spencer was held over on his back. However it was Queensbury who scored a converted try. This was fair enough as the only clean breaks made that half were theirs.

Few Albion players played a notable game. Exceptions were Scott Belamy who was awesome in both attack and defence. Equally so Steve Cullen made some darting runs and strong tackles.

Next Saturday Albion 'A' are at Highfield in a local derby against Silsden, k.o 2:30. With the U18s season over this should give the up and coming youngsters their chance to shine.
