ANOTHER six games postponed on Saturday due to waterlogged pitches means that the end of the season for some clubs is again turning into a hectic scramble.

Clubs face evening fixtures two or three times a week - and there is even some doubt that teams such as Skipton Bulldogs, Embsay, Waddington and Cononley will even be able to complete their home fixtures. So wet are their pitches that even the slightest shower causes them to become waterlogged again.

If more rain falls on Friday, as forecast, these clubs again look set for another blank week.

There was nearly a Sheffield United-style episode in one of the matches which did go ahead, as Skipton Town finished with seven men in their Premier Division relegation battle with Grindleton.

One man was sent off at the end of the first half for retaliation but the real trouble started when Town went 5-1 behind to a penalty. A further three players were then issued with their marching orders as play was brought to an end.

One of the matches which did escape last weekend was the Devonshire Carpets Division One Cup semi-final between Barnoldswick United and Bradley. It was the Pendle side who advanced to the final 3-2, thanks to a fine display from goalkeeper David Brooksbank.

Another semi-final to take place was the Division Two Cup, in which perennial winners Barrowford United conquered the slopes of Oxenhope and the Division Two leaders with a 7-4 win after extra time. They had finished at 4-4 after normal time.

In the Silentnight Premier Division, the leaders Skipton LMS secured another three points with a 3-1 win over Cross Hills. Oxenhope dropped two points after a goal-less draw at Carleton while Skipton Bulldogs won 3-2 at Keighley Lifts.

Leadership of Division Two is proving unlucky, as Colne Shepherds discovered when they entertained struggling Hellifield hoping to extend their lead. Instead they were beaten 5-3.

Intake recovered from last week's defeat to beat Gargrave 7-1 and, with Cowling and Bronte Reserves not in action, the title race is wide open.

Only one match took place in Division Two, at Ingleton, where the home side beat Sutton.

Division Three leaders McBride's lost at home to in-form Pendle Athletic by 5-2 but can still take the title, providing they win all their three remaining matches. Earby still have hopes after a 4-1 win at Skipton Town Reserves but Cowling's promotion hopes faded after they drew 2-2 with Carleton Reserves in a cup final rehearsal.
