Companies across Bradford are being challenged to field a team to take part in a corporate bowling competition in aid of the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Can...Cancer Research appeal.

Bradford Can... has joined forces with Hollywood Bowl at the new £25 million Leisure Exchange in Vicar Lane, Bradford, for the event which will take place on Thursday, April 18, from 5.30pm.

Twenty lanes will be dedicated to the fundraiser, which is hoped will bowl organisers over with the amount of money it raises for the £1 million appeal.

"We hope this will raise lots of money for a wonderful charity," said Ishmael Fearing, sales manager at Hollywood Bowl.

"It should be a fun evening which will culminate in a grand final. There will be trophies to be won by the winning team, the best male and female team and also consolation prizes.

"Many companies will have already received an invitation to take part in the event and anyone interested should get in touch with the Bradford Can... office."

Hollywood Bowl has adopted Bradford Can... as its charity and hopes the event will attract a lot of attention.

Teams need to include three people and the cost to enter is £40 per team. Those taking part will benefit from free parking, shoes and the game, a meal for three and a bottle of champagne.

Every penny raised at the event will be doubled by Sovereign Health Care, of Manningham Lane, Bradford, which has pledged to match fund all money raised for the appeal.

Once the £1 million target is reached it will trigger a further £5 million of funding from Cancer Research UK.

The money will be spent on pioneering cancer research by scientists at the University of Bradford's Cancer Research Unit and on patient trials of anti-cancer drugs at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
