Stuart McCall will leave Bradford City at the end of the season.

The Bantams legend has been officially told he will not be getting another contract. Lee Sharpe, Gunnar Halle, Gareth Whalley, Gareth Grant and young goalkeeper Jon Worsnop are also being released.

But Mark Bower will be offered a new contract after his strong run in the first team. Winger Andy Lee and defender Robert Morgan have also been given one-year deals.

Nicky Law waited until City were safe from the drop before drawing up his retained list. There are few surprises as he looks to reshape the squad.

The news about McCall, which the City skipper was expecting, will add spice to Saturday's home game against West Brom. It will be his 394th league appearance for the club and last at Valley Parade.

McCall, fifth in City's all-time league appearance records, will be 38 in June and is set for a sell-out testimonial game against Rangers on April 28. But he has vowed to keep on playing elsewhere.

Law said: "Stuart has been a great servant to the club and a fantastic pro. I'm sure that someone will give him another opportunity whether it's as a player or coaching as well.

"This weekend will be his final home league game and everyone will want to give him a fond farewell."

Sharpe, a £200,000 buy from Leeds three years ago, has flattered to deceive at Valley Parade. Injuries have restricted the former England international to only 66 games, one-third of which were as a substitute.

He scored just four goals, two of them in Law's first month in charge against Portsmouth and Barnsley.

At the time the Bantams boss claimed Sharpe, 30, was still good enough to play in the Premiership. But he has dropped out of contention again since and has been hampered by a rib injury.

Law opted to play Lewis Emanuel out of position in left midfield ahead of Sharpe at Wimbledon, an indication that the ex-Manchester United winger was no longer in his plans.

Law said: "Financially Lee is out of our bracket. We've got to cut the budget as well as bringing in different types of players. I thought it was only fair to the players to tell them now. This gives them a few weeks so they can start making contingency plans."

Halle turned down a contract offer on deadline day and instead joined Wolves on loan. Whalley is back at Crewe on loan and will be hoping to make a permanent switch. Grant, who scored the first goal of Law's City reign, has not impressed while Worsnop has yet to make a senior appearance.
