In the tradition of the one and only Ali G, Deepfill are on a mission to keep it real.

The newly formed nu-metal band, which is made up of members from Oakworth, Bingley and Bradford, wants to take a well-tuned axe to the growing crop of manufactured US pretend punks (Sum 41 anyone?).

Guitarists Alex Boyce and Andrew Waddington, Darren Ackroyd on bass, vocalist Peter Blagg and Ian Atkinson on drums have been honing the bands "nice and loud" punk/metal sound since forming in August.

Alex, 19, says: "We don't want to be pop metal like a lot of the manufactured bands around at the moment.

"Old skool bands like The Deftones, System of a Down and Rage Against the Machine show that you can come up with a new and exciting sound without compromising."

The band has so far written a dozen songs and has produced a three-track demo.

The young team can also rely on manager Trotwood, bass player with Keighley's finest, Skeletal Family, to provide a few words of advice along the way.

And the name?

Well, cast aside any notions of it symbolising something deep and spiritual.

Guitarist Andrew Waddington explains: "We were trying to think of a name and because I was eating a sandwich at the time I said we should call ourselves Deepfill.

"It was meant as a joke, but it seems to have stuck since then."

Deepfill and fellow local rockers Circus? play The Market Tavern, in Godwin Street, Bradford, tonight (April 12).
