A 30-year-old-woman from Otley was airlifted to hospital at the weekend after falling while out walking on a crag in Craven.

Victoria Holder, of East View Terrace, fell around 20 metres and suffered back injuries at Crummach Dale, near Austwick, at 2pm on Sunday.

Police and members of Clapham Cave Rescue attended the scene and a helicopter was called from RAF Kinloss in Scotland to take her to Royal Preston Hospital.

She was being treated in the spinal unit but her injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

Ray Lonsdale of the Clapham based Cave Rescue Organisation, said the woman remained conscious throughout the entire rescue.

She was being treated by an ambulance paramedic when we arrived.

"We put her on a mountain rescue stretcher and carried her about 250 metres down the mountain to where a waiting RAF helicopter could pick her up.

"It couldn't get any nearer because of the gusting wind and the steepness of the ground."

About 15 CRO members were involved in the rescue and the woman was flown directly to hospital in Preston.
