Yeadon learned some harsh lessons when they faced their first reduced overs thrash of the season in the league game with Baildon on Saturday.

Without the steadiness of usual opening bowler John Roper skipper Damian Shanahan opened with himself and Tony Gilks.

Things seemed to be going reasonably well at one stage but then Simon Davies and Baildon skipper James Goldthorp got into their stride and shared a stand of 89.

Goldthorp was first out being run out for 32. Davies went on to hold the innings together and hand out some punishment which pushed his side's score to 157-2 off 27 overs.

Paul Spragg hit a few lusty blows before young James Todd snapped him up off spinner Grant Soames for 17 but Matthew Duce was there with an unbeaten 28 to support the unbeaten 73 of Davies as Baildon put themselves in control.

With Yeadon's Shanahan and Gormley having shown excellent form of late hopes were high in the Yeadon camp.

Gormley strode out to open with fellow Scarborian Neil Elvidge but he was soon dashing back to the pavilion after being hit on the elbow by the ball as the fielder threw the ball in.

Shanahan came out to replace the injured Gormley but one could hear the groan of disappointment in the Yeadon ranks as he quickly returned to the pavilion having been dismissed for just one run bowled by the irrepressible Carl Smith.

The Addingham man, who joined Baildon from the now defunct Yorkshire Bank club, finished with 1-22 off five overs after a good opening spell.

Iain Philliskirk held the Yeadon innings together with an unbeaten 28 but all around him wickets were falling. Elvidge quickly followed Shanahan back to the pavilion for 11 being caught by Spragg off the bowling of Abbass making it 26-2.

Craig Thornton (14) and the returning Gormley (12) tried to get their side in the game but when Jonny Henry was out for one it was left to Philliskirk and Soames to bat out for the draw at 75-5.
