Hundreds of people will pack a Shipley church tomorrow to say farewell to climber Iain Hansen who was killed in a fall in New Zealand.

Mourners will be asked to make a donation in the outdoor pursuits instructor's memory to a charity which works to protect and conserve Britain's natural treasures.

The Telegraph & Argus reported last week how the 26-year-old, of Nab Wood, Shipley, had died after falling in the Mount Cook National Park.

Iain's mother Liz Hansen said she, her husband Peter and their daughter Catriona were anticipating a big turn-out for the funeral.

The service is due to start at St Peter's Church, Moorhead Lane, at 11am tomorrow and is to be followed by a cremation at Nab Wood Crematorium.

Mrs Hansen said: "We've got people coming up from all over the country - friends of Iain's from Shipley, Leeds Metropolitan University and people he'd met in his jobs as an outdoor pursuits instructor or through climbing.

"We're putting together some of his favourite music, which included the Levellers, for the service and will also be reading Remember, by the 19th century poet Christina Rossetti, a poem he was very fond of."

Mrs Hansen added: "We must have had more than 200 cards and letters from people - they've all been saying what a caring, loving person he was, someone who was full of laughter and who will never be forgot."
