Two pensioners are thrilled with a new post box which means they won't have to trek across Haworth to post their letters.

Harry Beevers, 74, and his 73-year-old wife Catherine moved to Redman Garth about three years ago and were dismayed to find that they had to walk across the village to Main Street to post their letters.

Mr Beevers explained: "When you consider that the weather in winter is so bad, it's a real trek and there are a lot of old people living round here.

"We had to walk down the cobbles to get to the post box before, so this new one is really handy."

Mrs Beevers added: "I suppose it's all right to get to Main Street if you have a car, but otherwise it was certainly very inconvenient for us."

The recently installed post box on the Heathcliffe estate will benefit people who found it difficult to access the other site.

Haworth Parish Councillor Wayne Deakin said: "Mr Beevers came to us and told us about the problem, so we put a request in for a new box on August 23, 2000. It's taken a long time to get it but it's worth it.

"We try to listen to what people want and there are a few more things in the pipeline that we are looking into."
