Local Rotarians are taking part in a major project designed to get people back into the countryside.

A series of more than 20 walks is being held throughout Yorkshire on Sunday in a joint venture between Rotary and the Ramblers Association.

It is also being staged as a celebration of the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

The Keighley, and Haworth & Worth Valley Rotary clubs are organising two walks. A 12-mile circular will start from Penistone Hill car park at Haworth between 9.30-10.30am, and a six-miler will begin at the same location at 2.30pm.

Both walks will take in Top Withens and Bronte Waterfalls.

Anyone is welcome to go along. Entry is free, and checkpoints will be provided. Michael Ward (pictured) for Keighley Rotary Club, said: "Walks are being held at locations around the county, including some in towns.

"The idea is for people to show their support for the countryside and communities following last year's foot and mouth outbreak, and to celebrate the Jubilee.

"We would en-courage as many people as possible to get involved."

A booklet containing full details of the walks is available free from Tourist Information Centres.

Further information can also be obtained from Mr Ward on 01535 665969 or Les Bown on 01535 606320.

l During the afternoon, from 2pm, refreshments will be served in the Haworth Parish Church schoolroom.

Tea, coffee and sandwiches will be available, and there will be a tombola.

Proceeds will go towards the "Kids Out" fund, which provides a day out for disadvantaged and disabled children.
