Oakworth swept into the second round of the Cowling Cup with an emphatic ten-wicket win at Foulridge.

Seventeen-year-old Luca Moretti scored 60 not out as the Cure Hill side cruised home.

Cup holders Thornton kept their aim of retaining the trophy on track after beating Chatburn by five wickets.

The Ribble Valley team made 128 with Geoff West top scoring on 49. Steve Laycock was the most successful bowler with 5-26. The visitors' innings was built around a solid 53 from Iain Clarkson and 37 from Mark Laycock.

Runners-up, Embsay, were in good form at Shires Lane they rattled up 181 against Cullingworth. Paul Barwick top scored with 63 aided by Scott Robinson (27) and Alan Robinson (24) as Mark Rendell claimed 5-36. The visitors were dismissed for 57 with Ian Robson taking 4-14 and Nas Hussain 3-25. A Campbell was the only batter to get into double figures making 18.

Pendle Forest II had too much firepower for a valiant Long Lee II. The Fence side rattled up 205-8 in the overs with evergreen veteran Mick Gowling scoring 56 and S. Ellis 42. In the unsuccessful reply Dean Baldwin made 55 as Paul Hakin took 3-47.

Ingrow St John's had first teamer Colin Bottomley to thank for their success at Pendle Forest III. He made 81 as the Saints posted 180. Youngster Sam Halstead taking 4-35. A. Hakin 30 and veteran David Hall 26 were the only two batsmen to offer resistance as the Fence side replied with 113.

Keighley TC came a cropper at home to Sutton. They batted first and were shot out for 67 with B. Airey taking 3-17 and R. Wilkinson 3-20. In reply Sutton's two first teamers Paul Williams 21 and Danny Brown 24 showed their experience to get their side home by 2 wickets. John Pankhurst finishing with 4-30 and S. Jopson 4-39.

Sadly Long Lee III's lack of experience came to the fore as they were shot out for a just18 at Haworth. Derek Bright 4-3 and Craig Ogden 3-6 had too much guile for the youngsters. Only 25 balls were needed to reach the required target.

Cononley put up a decent fight at Barrowford. M Atkinson took six wickets for 23 as the South Craven side was dismissed for 88. But Barrowford lost five wickets reaching their target.

Ingrow were far too strong for Gargrave winning by 74 runs.

M. Watkins with 90 made the top score of the day as Airedale plundered 200 at home to Glusburn. The South Craveners were then blasted out for 47. This after being 5-5 at one time. S. Aslam finished with 5-15.

Yet another first teamer, Skipton CI's Ian Burke had figures of 3-4 as visitors Bradley were shot out for 55. S. Davidson with 26 not out helped the Sandylands side home by six wickets.

Nick Staveley (56) and veteran Vernon Rooke (49) helped Cowling to 166-8 despite the day's best bowling figures of 7-37 from G Flanagan. Visitors Denholme were dismissed for 121 with R Taylor scoring 73.
