The body of a man has been found in a house in the heart of a Bradford village.

Mystery surrounds the death of the man, whose body was found inside a property in Idle.

Officers were called to the scene, and a police tent was put up behind Antie Wainrights house clearance shop in The Green at around 6pm yesterday.

The tent was put up around the area to the rear of the shop, which is for sale, and police tape sealed off the front of the shop. A blue Ford Escort car parked nearby was also surrounded with police tape.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death and inquiries are focussing around his movements in the days leading up to yesterday evening. People in the village told the Telegraph & Argus that the dead man was known as Tony and was believed to be in his 50s, but nobody was aware of how the man had died.

Detective Sup Alan Doherty confirmed that police were treating the death as suspicious.

He said: "We are investigating the death of a 52-year-old man but we have not yet been able to contact his relatives. His body was found last night at 6pm by a friend who had come to check on his welfare.

"Police are making house to house inquiries and checks in the immediate vicinity.

"We are carrying out forensic examinations at the house."
