Youngsters led the way in right royal end-of-term celebrations around the Bradford district to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Patriotic pupils turned up at their schools wearing traditional red, white and blue and pageants were held in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, who came to the throne 50 years ago.

Children at Idle CE School, pictured, waved flags as Sarah Mitchell played Queen for a day and led a horse drawn parade around the Boothroyd Avenue grounds.

Eight-year-old Sarah was all smiles and perfected the regal wave as she was guided in a carriage pulled by ponies.

At Netherleigh School in Heaton the boys and girls aged between three and eight dressed in the colours of the Union flag and created a huge collage during a fun day.

Head teacher Mary Midgley said: "They have all enjoyed it and each of our 65 pupils has gone home with a specially made jubilee mug with the Queen and the school badge on it."

Meanwhile toddlers and their families who attend the multi-cultural Little Lane Toddler Group in Duckworth Lane enjoyed a shared lunch of English and Asian food prepared by parents.

To add to the traditional colours, some guests also wore sparkly gold outfits to represent the golden anniversary, which is officially marked on June 4.

Pupils at St Walburga's Roman Catholic Primary School in Shipley turned to flower power and the first moon landing as they represented momentous occasions during the decades of the Queen's reign in music and song.

Dorothy Vernazza, head teacher, said children were delighted to be presented with commemorative medals by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Bradford, Councillor Richard Wightman Mrs Elizabeth Wightman, before the whole school enjoyed a picnic.

And the district's residents of all ages are gearing up to celebrate the occasion in style.

Next week the elderly residents of Hanover Housing Association's complex at Wyke will have a triple celebration when hold a party for the tenth anniversary of the opening of the estate, the Queen's Golden Jubilee and the 99th birthday of resident Dorothy Stimpson.

Eldwick pub Dick Hudson and the White Hart in Pool-in-Wharfedale will be hanging bunting and serving Jubilee Beef Wellington.
