Gunnar Halle is going back to his Norwegian roots after signing for former club Lillestrom.

The 37-year-old defender, who finished last season on loan at Wolves, played 93 times for City after signing from Leeds for £400,000 in June 1999.

He said: "I had three good years at Bradford but it was a bit of a disappointing way to go out. I got the sack like the rest of the players and the club still owe me money.

"When I went to Wolves on loan, they didn't pay me but gave the money to Bradford. But they haven't paid me either, and that was from April. I'm annoyed at what has happened but hopefully that will get sorted out with a new owner."

Halle has signed until the Norwegian season finishes at the end of October. He could then take up a coaching role at the club. He added: "I've been in England for 11 years but felt it was time to go back."

Stephen Caldwell, who spent two months on loan at Valley Parade last season, is wanted by Craig Brown at Preston. Brown returned from the World Cup yesterday and could open talks with the Newcastle defender later this week.

Caldwell, capped by Brown for Scotland 14 months ago, played nine games for City.
