The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor P. Hockney, accompanied by the Lady Mayoress, presented a fun mobile chair to Mr D. Higgins, of Fairfax School. The presentation was made at Horsfall Playing Fields on behalf of Bradford Lions Club.

British Railways summer service starts on Monday. Bradford will benefit by a Saturday service to Bournemouth and Poole, and a Saturday only train in each direction between Bradford (Forster Square) and Harrogate to connect with Saltburn and Harrogate trains. The North East Region will run the fastest schedule in Britain since 1939, when the 4pm train from Glasgow to Leeds - the North Briton express - covers the 44 miles from Darlington to York at an average speed, including the start and stop, of 62.86 miles an hour.
