Bradford's smaller firms are just as much at risk from cyber crimes as multi-nationals are, according to a new report.
Deian Tecwyn, president of the West Yorkshire Society of Chartered Accountants, said: "The key to reducing the risk from cyber crime is prevention.
"SMEs (small and medium enterprises) should focus on implementing policies such as employee guidelines for internet and email use and on developing a culture of awareness in order to really increase security."
Guidelines from the Fraud Advisory Panel and the Institute of Chartered Accountants also warn firms that cyber crimes come not only from those outside the organisation - but also from those within. Cyber crimes, including hacking, 'netspionage' and credit card fraud, have risen over the past two years.
