Representatives from the University of Bradford's International Office recently attended a high-profile rec-ruitment exhibition in the Chinese capital of Beijing.

The University was invited to participate in the event, which was called Promotion of Top-Flight Uni-versities from Abroad, as part of the fifth China Beijing Inter-national High-Tech Expo.

The number of Chinese students studying at the University has increased sign-ificantly over the last few years - from 83 registered in 2000/2001 to 203 in 2001/2002.

This figure is expected to grow as overseas links are strengthened and new partnerships are founded.

Dr Haydn Bartlet, head of the International Office, said: "The event offered us a new showcase in the heart of the Chinese capital and interest was high.

"We have also signed a new agreement with a specialist agency in China to increase our recruitment potential there.

"This will build on work already under-way via collab-orations with Heilongjiang and other institutions."

Professor Chris Taylor, vice-chancellor, added: "The increases in recruitment are due to the continued success of our overseas collab-orations and the popularity of our courses, and I am delighted that we continue to attract students from other countries.

"This mix of students makes the University a very vibrant place to be."
