A mother-of-two lost control of her motorbike and crashed into a lamppost, an inquest heard.

Alison Claire Bryan, 32, was killed instantly when the collision took place on the A650 Aire Valley trunk road near Keighley on October 28 last year.

Bradford Coroner's Court heard how she was travelling on a 600cc Suzuki Bandit when the front wheel struck the kerb near Marley roundabout on the Keighley-bound carriageway.

The machine flipped in to the air and struck a lamp-post before ending up in the middle of the road.

Mrs Bryan, who had three years' experience as a rider, was thrown against another lamp-post.

A post-mortem examination showed that the office manager, of Manor Farm Close, Cottingley, near Bingley, died from multiple injuries.

Motorist Trystan Lewis told the inquest that two motorbikes had passed him in the outside lane one after the other, but did not think there was anything untoward about the way they were being ridden.

After he saw something spinning ahead of him he pulled up in a lay-by, got out of the car and found a bike in the middle of the road. Mr Lewis said he then discovered Mrs Bryan next to a lamp-post.

Accident investigator John Green said she had been travelling at around the 70mph speed limit at the time of the crash.

Recording a verdict of accidental death, assistant deputy coroner James Turnbull said that when Mrs Bryan lost control it was most likely a "split-second event".

After the hearing, an appeal was made to trace an important witness who saw the incident.

Shopkeeper Andrew Major was expected to give evidence at the hearing but he failed to attend. The 34-year-old man used to live in North Bank Road, Batley, and is known in the area. Anyone with information about Mr Major's whereabouts can call Leslie Scaife on Keighley (01535) 293481/2.
