The Queen's Jubilee baton comes to Keighley next Friday during its journey across the country.

And the town's sportsmen and women want to make sure its brief stay is memorable.

They have organised a morning of activities at Victoria Park tying in with the arrival of the baton.

The event is being organised by sportKeighley as its contribution to this summer's Commonwealth Games celebrations.

The organisation is working with Keighley Leisure Centre, Eastwood Primary School, Oakbank School, Bradford Council and the Airedale Primary Care Trust. Several VIP guests are being invited, including Keighley MP Ann Cryer.

The jubilee baton is being carried to all corners of the British Isles in relay by a host of sporting stars and ordinary people, in advance of the Commonwealth Games later this summer.

The baton will arrive in Centenary Square, Bradford, on Thursday, at around 5.30pm, to be met by an official reception which will include the Lord Mayor, musicians and dancers.

The baton is due to arrive at Victoria Park, Keighley, the following day at 10.45am, as part of a journey that takes in Bradford, Shipley, Skipton, Harrogate, Wetherby and York.

People can run around Victoria Park with the baton carrier. The day will begin in the park at 9.30am with a "sportKommonwealth games" competition, and continue with the Jubilee Jog (10.30am), sports and other activities (11am) and a mass picnic (noon).

Everyone is welcome to go along to the event and should take their own food for the picnic.

SportKeighley is a consortium of sport-minded people who aim to bring together clubs and get more people involved in sport.
