FATHER and son duo, Trevor and Richard Hargreaves won the Yorkshire Parks Doubles title in fine style after an excellent day's bowling at Rufford Park last weekend.

The popular Cross Roads duo beat Carl Goodall and Peter Farmery of Eccleshill 21-14 to underline the strength of bowling talent in this small area of crown green bowling. The new Cross Roads comedy duo of 'Mick and Pick' also reached the last eight.

The Valley Federation team had mixed fortunes in recent games in the County Championship.

The Open Age team lost overall 11-22 to the British Police team despite winning 9-5 in the home leg at Lund Park when Andy Uttley, David Hewitt and Paul Berry were in fine form.

Away at Derby Co-op the majority of the team were well and truly 'cuffed' as only Kevin Wordley and Andy Johnson showed any real sign of form. The next match is a must-win game against Furness on July 21.

The Veterans put up another poor home effort against South Lancashire at Highfield when Edna Thornton and Eileen Whiteoak provided both the glamour and the only two victories.

The away team won at Leigh Rugby Club with victories from Douggie Stone and Eddie Allcock supported by David Galley and captain Peter Heaton.

Overall they were beaten 17-8 and will have to improve for their next game against Central Derbyshire.

Cross Roads have reached the Third Round of the Bitherton Cup with a narrow victory over old rivals Clayton.

Latest qualifiers in the John Rycroft Trophy include the first local with Ben Ridding (Steeton) coming good to claim a place in the final on august 11.

The Skipton Veterans Handicap Final is at Devon this afternoon (Friday) with Trevor Hargreaves a red hot favourite to take the title. He is also playing in the Halifax and Hebden veterans events as his goes for an amazing treble.

The Yorkshire and Henry Taylor Cups continue this weekend with Round Three. At the Yorkshire level Cross Roads face another tricky tie against Ossett Flying Horse and in the henry Taylor competition Cross Hills meet league rivals Broughton Road at Pudsey and Sutton play Almondbury Conservatives A at Spen Victoria.

The Valley handicap Doubles, sponsored by Bankfield Guest House, are at Cross Hills on June 30 featuring the holders Allcock and Boocock. Games start at 9.30.

The Keighley Women's Inter-City team were again short of top class players as they lost in the first round of this year's event at Garforth.

In the Clarkson Cup Oakworth lost to Settle A, but the district is well represented in the last eight with Keighley A, Silsden A, Silsden PF A and Steeton A who narrowly defeated first division side Cross Hills A by two points at Craven. Cononley A, who have gone second in Division One, are also through.
