Stuart Fielden has admitted he had a confidence crisis after playing for Great Britain against Australia last Friday.

The Lions were thrashed 64-10 in Sydney and the 22-year-old Bradford Bulls forward felt the setback as acutely as any of his team-mates.

"No-one said anything in the dressing room afterwards," said Fielden, who was on the pitch throughout the mauling.

"There was not too much to say and anyway it wasn't the right time.

"The following morning we had a team meeting and everyone was so down it was unbelievable.

"I didn't think I could feel any worse and I started to doubt myself as a player.

"I had a crisis of confidence. We could not believe what happened to us but then you start to get your confidence back a little bit."

Fielden was originally named as a substitute to face the Aussies. But he revealed: "I had an inkling the night before that I might be starting in the second row and that was confirmed to me on the morning of the match."

The former Illingworth ARL product laughed: "Starting games is becoming a bit of a trend for me lately what with the Bulls and this!"

Some pundits have said that jet-lag was always going to be a major factor in a trip Down Under that lasted nine days.

But Fielden only partially agreed, saying: "Yes, it was a tough trip and jet-lag was a factor up until mid-week.

"But I was fine before the match and I know a lot of my team-mates felt the same, so if it was a factor it was only a small factor and not an excuse."
