Alan Combe's chances of a Bradford City move may have been given a helping hand by a former Park Avenue player.

Sheffield United threatened to snaffle the Scottish keeper from City's grasp after Neil Warnock expressed an interest.

He was understood to have contacted Combe's agent after being alerted to his availability.

But Warnock has switched his attentions by snapping up Paddy Kenny from Bury. Kenny, who learned his trade with Park Avenue, has joined the Blades on a three-month loan with the promise of a full-time deal if he impresses.

That leaves the door to Combe still open for the Bantams, who will not be able to act until they are out of administration.

Combe has been forced to train with the youth team at Tannadice after being left off the pre-season tour of Austria.

He said: "It's been a nightmare just working away with the kids. When you're not involved with your team it's a horrible feeling.

"I know I'm not in the plans here and that was made even clearer when I was not on the tour list. And I can't see myself being involved in any of the other friendly games here.

"That's why I'm just waiting for something to happen with Bradford. I think the manager here just wants to write off my wages so hopefully a deal can be arranged.

"Obviously nothing is concrete at Bradford while they are in administration. But the signs are good there although it's taking longer than I had expected."

Combe, who played 16 games on loan at Valley Parade last season, is still high on Nicky Law's wanted list although the City boss has his hands tied.

Law said: "It's still up in the air with Alan but we are interested."

Combe is keeping his fingers crossed for a quick solution.

"It's not just about me but my family are hanging on as well," he said. "As a footballer you

learn to look after yourself and move about. But it's not so easy for other people like my

fiancee who is looking for work as well."
