The third year of Guiseley Festival has proved as popular as ever - and the next one is already being planned.

The two-week event was action-packed with car treasure hunts and garden wonders to poetry workshops and gardeners' question time.

The busy line-up saw standing room only at some events, including the children's writers workshop with Ilkley author Jenny Oldfield.

The creator of television series The Home Farm Twins and writer of more than 70 books, Jenny Oldfield, was so popular more than 80 people turned up.

She visited Guiseley library last Wednesday and gave advice to children of all ages. The festival ended on Sunday and organiser Richard Hughes-Rowland was delighted with its success.

He will soon look at plans to make next year's event - which will be the fourth - even better than ever.

"On the whole this year's Guiseley Festival went very well.," he told the Wharfedale Observer.

"We had quite a good attendance at most of the events," he said. "We had 60 people attending the gardeners question time, which was a lot more than last time.

"The art exhibition was opened and saw a steady stream of people coming through, the Soroptimists had a 'garden wonder' walk around Guiseley which proved popular and for the quiz, there were no spare seats left.

"The two events at Guiseley library on prose and poetry and the writing workshop were so popular there was standing room only.

"Guiseley FM were live all the way through it, they were well received, everyone tuned in and it was what everyone was talking about.

"We have already arranged to meet up in September to start preparing for next year."
