Free-kick ace Paul Evans savoured City's magnificent win at Ipswich and insisted: This is just for starters.

Welsh international Evans launched last night's shock 2-1 victory at Portman Road with a 25-yarder. On-loan striker Michael Proctor sealed their first three-pointer of the campaign against the stunned promotion favourites.

And Evans believes the confidence from such a result can get the ball rolling ahead of successive home matches with Rotherham and Coventry.

He said: "This has got to be a springboard for the season. It was a great place to get our first win and I thought we outplayed them and thoroughly deserved the points.

"After Ipswich hit six in their last home result they were probably thinking they would beat us because we hadn't won a game or scored many goals.

"But the lads were brilliant and showed a great attitude. We lost two more players injured from Saturday but I thought we were excellent

"And it was nice to see a free-kick go in. I don't know about promising to score one but I've gone close a few times so far - what a great place to get it."

The only sour note on a memorable night was another injury to defender Peter Atherton who damaged his groin. Danny Cadamarteri also went off late on with a hamstring twinge.

Boss Nicky Law said: "The squad is down to about 15 now and that includes a loan player. These injuries seem to happen every time we play but the lads keep bouncing back from it.

"To come to the title favourites and play football like that really epitomises the players again. I keep saying it and keep repeating it but that's 18 weeks they haven't been paid and they still go out and turn in performances like that."
