Keighley people are being urged to shop the town's drug dealers.

The top-level police plea comes as a major initiative is launched to drive dealing from the streets.

Thousands of posters and leaflets calling on the public to "Dob in a Dealer" are being distributed throughout the area from this weekend.

Some will be handed out at a "Party in the Park" -- in Myrtle Park, Bingley -- on Sunday, at which Gareth Gates and other chart-topping stars are performing.

People are asked to phone Crimestoppers anonymously -- on 0800 555111 -- with information.

The move is part of the police Crack Down operation, one of the biggest anti-drug ventures of its kind, which has had a massive impact in Keighley since its launch five weeks ago.

Fourteen people have been arrested in the town so far as part of the campaign, which is targeting the three Bradford-district police divisions. Nine of those arrests were for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Chief Supt Graham Sunderland, Keighley's police commander, told the Keighley News: "The results in Keighley from Crack Down have been tremendous -- dealers are being arrested and drugs recovered.

"We have gone through a period where the public has lost some confidence, but with the information we've had related to drugs we will react. The high number of arrests in the past month shows things are happening and the public is starting to see this.

"The Crack Down unit -- working in partnership with a number of different agencies -- is getting some great results and this is thanks to information coming from the communities. Now that we have got the momentum going, we can really make a difference.

"If you know someone who is dealing in this evil trade, pick up the phone and call Crimestoppers -- you do not have to give your name and your information may not only save lives, but you could also earn a reward.

"Drug dealers are the pariahs of our communities. They ruin lives, spread misery and impinge on the quality of life of people. The district drugs team is already having an impact on street dealers but we can do so much more with the right information.

"It is everyone's responsibility to tackle this problem and we are therefore asking anyone with the information to make that call. In return, officers from the district drugs team will act on good information and conduct investigations into suspected drug dealers.

"We will continue to work hard to make sure the streets of Keighley are a no-go area for drug dealers."
