In front of a 30,500 capacity crowd, the Colin Appleyard Racing team played their part in a thrilling day's racing at Cadwell Park.

Sean Emmett finished fifth in the opening race adding 11 points to his championship tally.

Just eight seconds back, Paul Jones on the R7 was involved in a race-long battle with Phil Giles on the 1000cc Suzuki.

Rain halted the second race after nine laps and after the restart Sean finished in sixth place and Paul Jones took 12th place.

Emmett said: "In the conditions these points are extremely valuable. I rode the bike as hard as I could, but this circuit is very technical and I didn't get the set-up quite right. We made a lot of progress through the weekend and this will transfer to Oulton this weekend."

Paul, on his first ride back after nine weeks, was pleased with his weekend's work. "These bikes are so fast and really demanding, to get 100 per cent out of them requires a very high level of concentration and determination," he said.

Team owner Colin Appleyard was impressed with the R1: "For Sean to go faster on the R1 this weekend than he did in similar conditions on his Ducati last year, really shows how good a package this is. With just a little more development time we'll soon be at the top of the podium," he said.

"I was also very impressed with Paul, to come back after a fairly long break is difficult at the best of times. But to come back as strongly as he did, in very changeable weather conditions, is a good demonstration of how much progress he has made this year."

The team now prepare for the next round at Oulton Park on Sunday.
