EMBSAY have become the first side in almost half a century to take all four Craven League trophies on offer to them.

Back in 1956 the brilliant and legendary James Nelson's SC collected all four trophies available to their two teams.

The final piece of the jigsaw dropped into place on Saturday for Embsay as they beat Haworth, while Oakworth surprisingly went down to Long Lee.

The weather made every effort to spoil the programme, but fortunately only four games featured no play, although a few were reduced overs affairs.

Embsay, who had used tarpaulins for three days to try to ensure their match against Haworth went ahead, were successful in their aim.

However, a very heavy shower as the players walked on to the field looked like thwarting their ambitions. The hurriedly replaced sheets did their work and play got under way.

Mick Cox claimed two early wickets before John Metcalfe stepped in and ended up with 6-19 off nine overs as the Bronte side crumpled to 49 all out. The Shires Lane side took the spoils by eight wickets.

Their joy was unbounded around 7pm, when news filtered through that their nearest rivals Oakworth had perished at home by the narrow margin of four runs.

The Keighley side won the toss and decided to bat, but lost Paul Stowell to the first ball of the game and then Jan Haider to leave them 6-2. Solid contributions from Richard Ayrton (48), Dean Baldwin (46), Mick Iles (45) and James Wilkinson (34) saw them recover to 219-8 in their overs, Michael Scarborough finishing with 5-76.

The Cure Hill side were always in the hunt, but when James Wilkinson brilliantly caught Scarborough for 59, the fat was in the melting pot. The last ball was reached with six needed for victory.

Jeff Inman could only manage a single and Long Lee had secured their safety for next season and handed the trophy to Embsay.

The weather spoilt Pendle Forest's chances of staying in the top flight. They needed to beat Thornton to have any chance, but a downpour 20 minutes before play was to start flooded the pitch.

Despite brave efforts to rescue the cause, another heavy shower put paid to their slim hopes of play and in turn this has led to their relegation to the Second Division.

The side Forest were hoping to cling to, Cowling, did themselves a favour by seeing off the challenge of Barrowford at Keighley Road.

The red rose side were rolled over for 126 with David Flounders top scoring with 31 as Martyn Dalby claimed 5-76 and David Batty 3-33. The homesters got home by five wickets with Mike Dudley contributing 44.

Relegated Foulridge entertained Bradley and, batting first, the ten-man side was shot out for 109, John Lickess making 37 as Tim Rudden finished with 4-39 and Neil Robinson 3-67 from 20 overs apiece.

In reply Neil Andrews (55no) and M Milbourne (35no) took the visitors to victory by nine wickets in the 23rd over.

At Cullingworth in a 30 overs per side game, Skipton CI managed 111-9 with Simon Bates making 39. Skipper David Hall (4-49) and David Robinson (4-50) shared the bowling honours. Steve Welch with 77no swept the home side to an impressive nine-wicket triumph.

Haworth WE confirmed their position as Second Division champions when they beat one of their long time challengers, Sutton, by two wickets in a low scoring game.

The home side was dismissed for 99 with Adam Bailey bowling superbly to finish with 8-38. The champions reached their target for the loss of eight wickets as David Holdsworth took 4-17 and Darren Wild 4-39.

Denholme clinched the second promotion spot in fine style at home to J Nelson's. The visitors were restricted to 136-7 in their overs.

The home side then brushed this aside in only 13 overs without losing a wicket, Gareth Marshall scoring a fine 101no.

Ingrow St John's move into third spot ahead of Sutton after their game at Gargrave was called off without play being possible.

Ingrow are fifth after beating Carleton by five wickets at Ramper Park. The home side were dismissed for 111 with Gareth Wooler top scoring with 34 as I Wilce claimed 5-28. In the successful reply, W Exley and A Parker both scored 30.

Glusburn rattled up the day's highest score - 234-5 - with M Desgranges making 92no and Phil Taylor 49. Visitors Chatburn made a fair fist of their reply with 180, Simon Hagerty finishing with 6-59.

There was an exciting finish at Cononley, where visitors Airedale had raced to 50 without loss before the rain interrupted play. After the delay they collapsed to 101 all out.

Matthew Cox, with 36, took his total of league runs past the 800 mark as Matthew Town finished with 7-48. The homesters had Charles Calvert (32) and Andy Filkin (26no) to thank for the points, which were taken with the last pair at the crease with just three minutes of playing time left.

Third Division champions Embsay managed an over's play down at Bradley. This was one over more than second placed Thornton had at home to Cullingworth. Barrowford leapfrog the Booth Bridge Lane side after seeing off bottom side Glusburn by seven wickets at Bull Holme.

Cowling's Mark Batty (81no) and Vern Rooke (5-9) were the stars of their 71 run victory over Haworth. Derek Bright claimed 4-28 for the Bronte team.

Long Lee's Richard Granger scored 52 and took 7-38 but still ended up on the losing side as Pendle Forest won by 21 runs. Paul Hakin bowled well to finish with 8-43 for the winners.

Oakworth have gone off the boil in recent weeks and lost again by six wickets to Skipton CI, Nigel Carr (5-22) and John Stuttard (36) doing the business for the winners.

Fourth Division champions Ingrow St John's continued their winning ways at home to Cononley. Alan Hargreaves (54) was the backbone of their 146-5. The visitors fell 68 short of their target.

Airedale clinched the second promotion spot in style as they saw off visitors Foulridge by nine wickets. The Noyna side were dismissed for 90 with S Aslam taking 4-28 and I Zaman 4-23. Javid clattered 44no as the Keighley side cantered home.

Chatburn's recent poor form continued as they lost at home to Gargrave by 55 runs. Youngster Will Campbell scored a fine 93 for the winners.

Sutton's journey to Ingrow was fruitful as they emerged winners by 69 runs, C Smith scoring 80 for the visitors.

Long Lee II put up a creditable performance at Barrowford before going down by three wickets to Pendle Forest III.

Finally, Keighley Tech's Wayne Coppack was another player to turn in a fine performance and still end up on the losing side. First he took four Denholme wickets for 68 and then scored 70 as his side went down by 39 runs.
