The accent is on Silsden people as they prepare to play cockneys and aristocrats on stage in Skipton next week.

They are playing leading roles in the light-hearted musical Me and My Girl for Skipton Amateurs.

The title roles are played by Helen Procter and John Dewhurst while John's wife Caroline plays one of the toffs.

Howard Clement, also from Silsden, plays a solicitor and Sutton man Chris Blackie plays another member of the gentry.

Helen is playing her first principal role after spending 15 years in the Skipton Amateurs chorus.

The show follows the fortunes of a Cockney lad who discovers he has inherited a country mansion.

His new status puts pressure on his relationship with sweetheart Sally Smith.

All's well that ends well after a string of well-known songs such as the Lambeth Walk, Leaning on a Lamppost and of course Me and My Girl.

The musical will be presented at Skipton Town Hall from September 30 to October 5 at 7.15pm, and on the Saturday at 2.15pm.

Buy tickets from John Phillips, Newmarket Street, Skipton, or phone 01756 793796.
