Benito Carbone's £750,000 luxury pad is still on the market.

Bradford City are desperate to shift the lavish five-bedroom home in Alwoodley, Leeds, they bought for the controversial Italian star. The property in Sovereign Court has been on sale with Leeds-based estate agents Manning Stainton since July 9.

City had budgeted on a quick sale as they emerge from administration. But a would-be buyer recently pulled out of a deal, leaving the cash-strapped club still saddled with the mortgage.

City chief executive Julian Rhodes said: "We thought a sale was done but it fell through at the last minute and the house has been back on the market a couple of weeks.

"We understand a lot of people have looked round it and several have paid a couple of visits so we're hopeful it can be sold soon.

"Obviously we need to get rid of it pretty quickly. At the moment the house is in our cash-flow for the next couple of months and we are having to commit a lot of money to it. They don't mention in the brochures that it used to be owned by Benito. Perhaps that would be a selling point with some buyers."

The five-bedroom house is described in the estate-agent details as a "fine, family home offered with the benefit of immediate vacant possession." There is an adjoining annexe with a further four rooms and enough garage space to accommodate three cars.

City, who are expected to officially come out of administration on October 1, bought the house new when Carbone joined in 2000.

He returned to Italy in the summer to sign for Como after agreeing a £750,000 pay-off for the remaining two years on his £40,000-a-week contract.

A spokesman for Manning Stainton said: "I can confirm there has been a lot of interest in the house.

"But we don't disclose details about potential purchases.
