Cross Roads star Graeme Lomax has been in fine form lately as he tasted mixed success at coastal venues in the last few weeks.

"The Batman" travelled to Whitby first where he won the Bridlington Open with an easy 21-8 success over top local Mick Jessop.

He then stepped up in class when he visited the end of season Isle of Man Open where he reached the final of the main event. Sadly he might have booked his digs in the "Heartbreak Hotel" as he succumbed 20-21 to an up and coming local as the tension and prize money mounted.

Chris Slater was also on Isle of Man duty but was able to return in time to qualify locally for the Yorkshire Cockcroft handicap at Gargrave. He tasted success along with Graham Perry (Whinfield) and will head for the Crosland Moor finals this Sunday, hoping to regain his title.

Slater also regained the Skipton Mixed Doubles with his wife, Diane. After a long day's play they defeated Craig Walsh and Julie Pickles (Keighley) 15-4 with some ease at Cononley. The Slaters had defeated holders Roy Sanderson and Liz Blond in earlier rounds and Ed Hall and Tina Balmforth in the semis, while Craig and Julie had tasted semi-success against Peter Deighton and Red Lion "Hostess with the Mostest" Eileen Reape.

Jamie Cunningham (Silsden PF) continued his good run in the Johnstone Handicap when he regained the floodlit Trophy at Rolls Royce, defeating Phil Anderson (Keighley) 21-12. Anderson had survived two earlier 21-20 games and they took their toll. Losing semi-finalists were Neil Hargreaves and Brian Potts (Haworth).

Also on the victory trail at Keighley BC were Donald Varley and Alan Green who won the Everest Veterans Doubles, defeating Haworth's Herbert 'Cats Eyes' Shaw and newcomer Albert Spencer.

Haworth pulled off an excellent win at Crowghyll which should ensure survival in Division Three of the Bradford League with one game to go. They have also won the Hebden Second Division title.

The local Inter District team finished the season with an excellent win over Harrogate, 17-4 which should ensure second place. They won 7-3 at Wetherby and 9-1 at a deserted Cross Hills when Roy Sanderson and Keith Coppen swelled the crowd to at least half a dozen, and when Harrogate's bowling left much to be desired.

Yorkshire Ladies left Lancashire Ladies shell-shocked in the county championship final at Blackpool's Waterloo BC on Sunday, beating them 432-381 to end the season unbeaten. The Yorkshire team included Whinswood's Sue Finnie, who was narrowly beaten in her match.

Whinswood BC is staging an Open Doubles contest, sponsored by Omega Windows Systems with qualifying rounds on Saturday, October 5 (10.30am and 2pm) and Sunday, October 6 (10.30am and 2pm).
