Silsden won the Keighley Cup 2002 in a thrilling final at Lawkholme Lane.

The showpiece competition was jointly sponsored by the Keighley News and H H Clark (Keighley) with all clubs within the Keighley News circulation area invited to take part.

Sunday's final brought the curtain down on the season in style with Silsden winning by four runs after a game in which fortunes ebbed and flowed.

The Aire-Wharfe League side saw their own fortunes suffer a blow with opener Chris Meehan back in the pavilion with just eight runs on the board.

he was followed four runs later by Steve Tillotson who was run out.

Craig Thornton and John Akrigg dug in to take the total to 41, but a second collapse saw them struggling at 55-5.

Adrian Emmott played a true captain's innings, taking the wicket low down the order but fighting to make sure they batted out the overs, he top scored with 33 and helped his side to reach 154-9 at the end of the 45-over innings.

Cullingworth also suffered the loss of early wickets, with danger man Steve Welch caught by Lee Bilborough off the bowling of Andy Pullen without scoring.

They continued to score slowly and lost wickets as they slipped to 32-4 before Craig Ratcliffe (45) and Andy Hodgson (29) rebuilt the innings.

Once Hodgson had been trapped lbw by Pullen the innings faltered again with slow bowler Mark Akrigg tying up the Cullingworth batting attack.

But after a quiet spell, which may ultimately have cost them victory, Cullingworth's innings suddenly sparked back into life.

After losing cheap wickets which saw them slump from 112-5 to 114-9, last pair Shane Whitford and David Robinson, opted to go for glory.

They took on the Silsden bowlers, and pushed runs which had been rejected earlier in the innings. Six runs off the penultimate over left them needing 10 to win off the last over of the match.

A no-ball and some good batting had the crowd on the edge of their seats as they were left needing a six off the last ball to win the game.

Cullingworth were fell just four runs short of their target after a classic game in which they had enjoyed the advantage for 60 per cent of the match.

Adrian Emmott was named man of the match for his vital contribution with the bat which rescued his side's innings, coupled with a tight bowling spell with also saw him pick up the wicket of Cullingworth opener Andy Powis.
